The 6th and 7th day of the 16 days for youth initiative we visited the town of Worcester. In Worcester we partnered with organization Stop Hunger Now, were we packed 60 boxes of meals – 1 box can feed 20 children for a whole month. The storm interrupted our plans to go to Avian Park Primary School, which was closed like all schools in the Western Cape. We donated food from Stop Hunger Now to Avian Park when we visited on day 6. We discovered the school is in desperate need of a feeding scheme, but because it is a quintile 4 school and is newly built – funds are not allocated to the school for a feeding scheme. The principal explained to us that the children mainly come out of poorer homes, as their parents are seasonal workers. Sun International donated educational toys to Avian Park’s grade R’s.
