Day One – The Heart FM 16 Days For Youth initiative has commenced. This year sees the start of the sixteen day journey at the Bright Stars Safe Home. The home is run by a Brenda, who turned her house into loving home for children who are exposed to unstable and unsafe environments. The house is in desperate need of maintenance, particularly the kitchen. Through it all though, Brenda remains optimistic and continues to shower the children with nothing but love and affection.
No 16 Days For Youth is ever complete without help from some of our favourite supporters. Aunty Magda and Ryan Muller joined the team and offered their assistance to the Bright Stars Safe House. Upon arrival aunty Magda whipped out the gazebo and busied herself making delectable vetkoeks for the kids and those who passed on by. As the smell of jam, deep fried vetkoek and coffee filled the air, Ryan Muller from Ryan’s Dentil Studio brought his mobile dentil studio around to give all the kids their necessary dental checkups.
The construction project is underway! The Heart FM team are stripping out Brenda’s kitchen and replacing the cabinets, countertops, tiles and the necessary kitchen equipment she requires. The place was infested with cockroaches, but we were fortunate enough to fumigate the home for them and leave them in a cleaner, safer environment.
Shopping was the name of the game as Brenda and the breakfast team had the chance to go buy a few things for the kids. In the process the team met a few friends along the way and left with enough food and supplies to last, Bright Stars Safe Home, a good couple of weeks!
Day one complete – The Heart FM team wrapped up our first day at the Bright Stars Safe House. The team were overwhelmed with the response from the Heart FM listeners. Many donations were received, notably from Estelle who agreed to feed and educate 3 kids at the home as well as the Northpine Cricket Club who have donated R5000 to the Safe House. We have met so many amazing people in Kraaifontein and we encourage you to show your continued support and love to a wonderful community.
