Day 3 – A chilly winters morning and the team are plowing full steam ahead on Day 3 of the 16 Days For Youth Initiative. The efforts of today see the team revamping Bridges Play Centre in Bridgetown, Athlone. The creche has no warm water to speak of and the environment makes learning a very difficult task to accomplish. The Heart team are on a mission to bring warmth and comfort to the children of Bridgetown by serving them a fulfilling lunch and ensuring that their school provides the best possible environment for growth.
Refurbishment of the schools playground has begun. Swings sets are getting a new coat of paint, jungle gyms are being fixed and the surrounding area is being cleaned up and made safer for the children to play in.
The revamp of Bridges Play Center continues. We’ve added a new geyser, tabletops and the play ground is looking fantastic.
New Dawn is feeding scheme which operates in the Bridgetown community feeding school children from vulnerable home environments. The project is run by Kathleen and Jenny and we had a few surprises for them.
More from the Bridges Play Center. The Heart family got involved and bought a number of bricks to help further fund the good work done at the center. Pledges ranged from R100 to R3000 and the outpouring of love from our listeners was wonderful to experience.
We wrapped up Day 3 by raising over 20 000 for Bridges Play Center, installing a new geyser, revamping their playground and donating a number of toys for the children to play. Our good friends at McDonalds also popped by to deliver happy meals for the kids with dessert supplied by Baskin-Robbins. After all those treats Dr. Ryan Muller supplied the kids with dental checks and families left Bridgetown that afternoon happy, healthy and well fed.
