Peter Pan: Down Syndrome Centre
About
Peter Pan is the fairy tale character that makes children’s dreams come true. In the heart of a residential area in Maitland, is a pre-school with the same name and aims.
Peter Pan was established in 1986 and the first classes were conducted in a hall at the German School in Hope Street, Cape Town.
This very unique pre-school was the brainchild of a group of parents who had children
with special needs, especially Down syndrome.
However, it should be noted that the centre exists purely on sponsorship and fundraising from independent companies who to date have carried the centre to the point where it was able to relocate to decent premises and upgrade their teachers.
