A cold morning greeted us in Bredasdorp and upon leaving our guest house, we met up with Early Year Services (EYS) at the Lesedi Centre. Early Year Services is a NGO that facilitates Early Childcare Development (ECD) centres to assist schoolgoing and non-schoolgoing children.

Today we assisted by providing the Lesedi Centre with toys for their toy library. A toy library is exactly like a book library, except you can take a toy home. You ‘rent’ a toy for a period of time. We made goal posts out of old plumbing pipes and handed out lunch boxes from SASKO with sandwiches and boerewors rolls.

The children were lots of fun and had so much to tell us and share with us! The teachers are dedicated to shaping the future of the young people of this community.

*** Thanks to Kimon from Kiki Toga Laughter Yoga for coming out to join us and facilitating a session with the children – great fun!

Anene Booysen:

Bredasdorp has been in the media for all the wrong reasons in the last few years, especially for the brutal murder of Anene Booysen. We passed the street where her body was found. Her grandmother has never been to this part of town again.

Upon leaving Bredasdorp, we decided to visit Anene’s gravesite and leave flowers for this lovely girl who was only 17 when she lost her life. A bright young girl with so much ahead of her. Rest in Peace Anene.
